Ridgecrest Adventurography Excursion: Cerro Coso Community College

I took these pictures back in July and posted them on Facebook then, but apparently didn't share them on the ole' bloggy blog. My apologies. Ridgecrest's local community college, Cerro Coso, probably has the best view in the entire valley. Enjoy a few pics from their south west lawn. I especially like the funky rock garden.

Pictures from my first-ever "Ridgecrest Adventurography Excursion"

Since moving to Ridgecrest, I've been scoping out spots to either do photoshoots or areas of town that I am unfamiliar with that I would like to explore. Granted, there aren't too many nooks and crannies to explore in this smaller desert town, but that just means I'll get to know the town better than any other place I've lived, right? :)

So, to help me keep my sanity, keep up my photo skills, to get out of the house, and to have fun, I decided to document these little outings. I have aptly named them the "Ridgecrest Adventurography Excursion" series. Basically, anytime I go out and just have photo time around the city, they'll be documented for, uh... posterity's sake and for your's, I guess.

Outing #1 was at Rademacher Hills, on the Sunland Trail. I haven't spent much time doing sunset pictures, so I thought I'd give my hand a try at those. I left the house a bit later than I should have, I didn't really have a destination in mind -- I just decided to drive out towards the local college and see where I ended up.

I started at the trailhead with the goal to get to the front/west side of the first of two hills. I made it to the south side of hill two and didn't quite get the pics I was imagining, but then again, you can't achieve perfection all of the time. :)

Cottontop Cactus... Echinocactus polycephalus

Native Americans ate the seeds and used the plants to treat burns, and the spines were used as needles.

 

 Neat stuff! 

I grew up in the desert (Southern Nevada), and have seen similar plants to these, but have never seen a Cottontop Cactus until I moved to Ridgecrest. I thought these were really cool. Not to mention a titch fierce looking once you get a good peak at those fearsome spikes.

I am back!

Has it really been since January that I last posted?! Sheesh... let me tell you, I've missed photographing and it has been way too long. But, since last we met, the following have occurred in my life:

. My college crush/boyfriend proposed to me the night of/morning of New Years (yay!)

. I madly worked on wedding plans at the same time as I finished my graduate school field project through March.

. Got married on Friday, May 6th: a beautiful Spring morning, danced in the cherry blossoms and celebrated with family friends all day long.

 

 . Danced the night away at a beautiful reception (I had so much fun planning this party... and yes, it was a PARTY! Yay!)

. Moved from my downtown Salt Lake City apartment to Ridgecrest, CA, pop. 30,000, 2 days after the wedding

.And we are... 6 months after my last posting and 2 months after a wonderful wedding and 2 months into a wonderful marriage with my best friend

I have been earnestly searching for full-time (or even part-time) employment, but in a city full of engineers and scientists, there aren't many positions for creative types such as myself. :) I am finally getting around to relocating my photography business here to Ridgecrest. It has taken a while, and has started much too late, but... at least I'm finally doing it, right?

I'm excited to get to know the city more, to get to know the wonderful people here and continue making this our home. I look forward to getting to know you!

Temple Square Christmas 2010

I love Christmas. I love Salt Lake City at Christmas.

Especially Temple Square on an evening when it's just dumped buckets of snow.

Pure bliss.

Throughout this entire Christmas season I have been wishing for a good dumping of snow to occur on an evening where I would be available to actually go to Temple Square and take evening photos. I finally got my wish the night before I left Salt Lake for New Years. It was a lovely precursor to an even greater weekend.

Enjoy... And Happy New Year, Merry Christmas -- all year round.

Breezy & Gable: A Nevada Wedding

Say hello to The Taggarts... You may remember them from their engagement shoot from October.

They're such a delight, so fun and easy going. We took pictures on a blustery Southern Nevada day, before their sealing at the Las Vegas Temple. Breezy's dress matches her fun personality perfectly, and Gable's black pin-stripe suit was quite suave. And you'll love Breezy's shoes!!
